In 1992, President Clinton appointed Cisneros to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. As a member of President Clinton’s Cabinet, Secretary Cisneros was credited with initiating the revitalization of many of the nation’s public housing developments and with formulating policies which contributed to achieving the nation’s highest ever homeownership rate.
After leaving HUD in 1997, Cisneros was president and chief operating officer of Univision Communications, the Spanish-language broadcaster which has become one of the most watched television networks in the nation. He currently serves on Univision’s Board of Directors, as well as on the board of La Quinta Inn & Suites.
Henry Cisneros has served as President of the National League of Cities, as Deputy Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and is currently an officer of Habitat for Humanity International. Cisneros remains active in San Antonio’s leadership where he has beenChairman of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation. He is currently a member of the boards of the Urban Institute and the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington. Cisneros has been inducted into the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) “Builders Hall of Fame”.
